How to Repair Scratched Sunglasses Polarized Lens

August 11th,2023

Wondering how to repair a scratched sunglasses polarized lens of yours? then look no further and read our guide.

What are Sunglasses Polarized Lens?

These lenses are special kinds of lenses that are specially designed to reduce glare and enhance visual clarity in bright outdoor conditions for their wearers. They come with a special feature known as a polarized filter. This filter plays an extremely crucial role in the performance of these lenses. They mitigate the effects of sunlight glare which can be extremely annoying in normal lenses.

This problem of glare occurs when light rays reflect off from different flat surfaces around us. These surfaces can be water or just any road. The bouncing effect causes the sunlight waves to align horizontally creating very intense brightness in front of our eyes which can strain the eyes. The polarized filter present in these lenses can act as a vertical filter which can effectively block horizontally aligned light rays coming into our eyes. But allows vertical light to pass through into our eyes fixing the problem of glare. Although the lens is cool and technologically very advanced, It also goes through the problem of scratches.

How to Repair Scratched Sunglasses Polarized Lens?

Let us first break this down: There isn't much one can do about a significant scratch on any type of prescription glasses or polarized or nonpolarized sunglasses. Especially on the ones which have penetrated the lens rather than simply damaging the coating on top of it. So, if your lens is seriously damaged then we can tell you that you can't do much about it but if the coating is damaged, then the below methods can solve the issue:

1. A Professional Product

Here are tools that specialize in scratches. You can retrieve them by keyword. If you browse through the online market, you will find many and some have good reviews, especially on Amazon. We recommend trying them first.

2. Try to Use Brass or Silver Polish

It may sound weird, but it works. This tactic works in two ways: for lenses that come with a brown tint, we have to use brass polish. and for others, go with silver polish. The idea behind this tactic is that you’re making it flush by filling in the scratches and fixing the problem and works only as an option if you have mirrored lenses on your sunglasses and the scratch is not like a deep one. In such cases, you are most likely to fill it in enough that it’s no longer visible. but like we said before, if the scratch is deep enough that it goes through the coating and reaches the lens, no amount of polish will get the job done.

3. Find that Furniture Spray

Yes, you heard it right. You can use it to repair scratched sunglasses polarized lenses in a very effective way. Find that spray in those small storage places of yours and you will love the results. The only problem here is that after the application, your sunglasses may now smell like lemon or any other fruit smell, depending on your furniture-spray type. In any case, you might be, we assume that you already have some furniture polish on hand so we recommend giving it a try.

For the application, we suggest starting with a little spray application directly into the scratch on your lens and then using a lint-free super soft cloth to rub it in and then slowly wiping the excess application away to get the best results. If you are not successful in removing the scratch, you will at least know how deep the scratch on your lens is.
